Say goodbye to dry, hydrophobic soil and hello to lush, thriving gardens with Gavin Davis’ revolutionary clay-based soil amendment.

If your garden struggles with patchy lawns, dried-out plants, or endless water bills, you’re not alone. Coastal sandy soils, like those in Perth, are notoriously challenging to garden in. They’re hydrophobic, meaning they repel water, and require constant watering to maintain even the smallest semblance of a lush garden. But what if there was a permanent solution that transforms your soil into a fertile foundation for thriving plants? Soil Solver is here to help!
On Saturday, 30th November, join us at the Garden & Gourmet Market at Supreme Court Gardens from 10 am to 4 pm, where Gavin Davis from Soil Solver will be at the Speaker’s Corner to share how their scientifically blended clay-based amendment can transform your garden.

Sandy soils are made up of large particles with little ability to retain water or nutrients. During Perth’s dry, hot summers, these soils become water-repellent, causing water to channel away from plant roots. The result? Plants that struggle, pests that thrive, and frustrated gardeners spending more on wetting agents, mulch, and water.
Temporary fixes like soil wetting agents or composts mask the problem but don’t solve it. Over time, hydrophobic soils re-emerge, leaving gardens neglected or costly to maintain.

Soil Solver was created by Gavin Davis, a fourth-generation Western Australian farmer who turned necessity into innovation. Faced with the challenge of improving marginal farmland sustainably, Gavin began experimenting with clay and mineral balances on his property. He discovered that traditional methods, like using gypsum, were outdated and insufficient for creating permanent change.
In the 1990s, Gavin revolutionised his approach to soil improvement, achieving 30-50% yield increases by altering the calcium and magnesium balance and adding lime. His success on marginal clay-based farmland inspired him to tackle Perth’s sandy soils.
Gavin applied his expertise to develop a unique blend of high-grade Kaolin clay, silt, and rock minerals. His formula transformed sandy soils into rich loam, enabling gardens to retain water, promote healthy plant growth, and reduce weeds. Friends and neighbours quickly saw astonishing results, and the demand for his product grew.
After formal studies at the globally recognised Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia, Gavin spent over 15 years educating gardeners about soil improvement. Industry leaders, including Darren Seinor and Trevor Cochrane, embraced Soil Solver as the go-to solution for water-retentive, nutrient-rich soils.
Soil Solver has been featured on TV programs like Garden Gurus, Greenfingers, and Home in WA, earning its reputation as a game-changer for Australian gardens.
As Gavin says, “The answer lies in the soil.”
