Sow the Seeds of Something Special with Seed Station at Gather & Gourmet

Whether you’ve got a backyard veggie patch or just a couple of pots on a sunny windowsill, Seed Station will inspire you to grow your own gourmet ingredients.

Gather & Gourmet is all about celebrating flavour, creativity, and connection — and that doesn’t just mean what’s plated up on the day. It also means spotlighting the makers and growers who give us the tools to build something delicious from the ground up. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Seed Station to our next event at Supreme Court Gardens on Saturday, 30th August, from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Whether you’ve got a backyard veggie patch or just a couple of pots on a sunny windowsill, Seed Station will inspire you to grow your own gourmet ingredients — and they’ll give you everything you need to get started.

A Seedling Idea that Grew into a Passion

Established in Hilton, Western Australia, Seed Station is a proudly Australian-owned and operated business that started out small in 2010, selling seedlings at local farmers markets and IGAs. As demand grew, so did the offering — first adding seeds to the mix, and then, by 2022, becoming fully focused on seed supply.

Today, Seed Station supplies home gardeners and select commercial growers with heirloom and open-pollinated seeds, many of which are grown locally or right here in WA. “We pride ourselves on cultivating our own range of plants specifically for seed production,” Jacqueline says, “supported by a network of passionate seed savers and seed enthusiasts.”

The range has expanded from a few humble veggie varieties to a broad selection of herbs, flowers, and Australian native plants. Everything is chosen with care and backed by years of experience growing from seed — so customers know they’re starting with something special.

As Jacqueline puts it: “Each seed in our collection represents much more than just a starting point for a plant; it embodies a legacy filled with origins and histories.”

Homegrown Gourmet, One Packet at a Time

At Seed Station’s stall, you’ll find seeds that aren’t just practical — they’re culinary. Jacqueline is bringing along three of her favourite gourmet varieties to Gather & Gourmet, and they’re ideal for gardeners of any level:

Tamarillo (Tree Tomato)

This tropical fruit sits somewhere between a tomato, a plum, and a passionfruit — rich and tangy, and perfect for creative dishes.

  • Bruschetta: Pair slices of tamarillo with creamy goat’s cheese

  • Chutney: Simmer chopped fruit with onion, vinegar, apple and spices

  • Grilled: Halve, sprinkle with sugar, and grill until bubbling — then serve with yoghurt and honey

Ruby Saltbush

A hardy native that’s both beautiful and edible. Its silvery leaves and bright red berries are as striking in the garden as they are on the plate.

  • Berry Sprinkle: Add fresh berries to pumpkin soup or leafy salads

  • Cordial: Steep in hot water with sugar and lemon zest, then chill

  • Ruby Slaw: A salty-sweet pop in your next batch of coleslaw

Baron Solemacher Strawberry

An alpine favourite that grows well in containers and rewards you with tiny, fragrant berries that are intensely sweet.

  • Shortcake Toppers: Layer on sponge with whipped cream

  • Breakfast Garnish: Add to porridge, muesli, or pancakes

  • Garden Spritz: Drop a few into sparkling water or wine

Each seed packet is packaged in-house by Jacqueline herself, complete with a photo, short description, and growing advice to help you succeed — no matter your gardening experience. “All packaging is done in-house, from printing and designing seed packets with growing advice and photo and description,” she explains.

Growing More Than Just Plants

Seed Station is built around sustainability and simplicity. The business avoids plastic in both product packaging and mailing materials. “Recycling and repurposing is a big part of the growing process,” Jacqueline says — and her commitment to eco-conscious practices is clear at every stage of the customer journey.

While Seed Station is a full-time operation, it follows a seasonal rhythm. “I work at home during Summer and Winter,” Jacqueline explains, “and then in Spring and Summer I am off being a social butterfly selling my seeds at markets and events.”

This blend of behind-the-scenes prep and face-to-face connection is what makes the business feel so personal. Jacqueline’s favourite part? The people.

“My favourite moments are when customers come back and report on their successes with growing the seeds. When a seed pops its head up it is a magical moment that all gardeners enjoy. Gardening can be a passion, and it is great to talk with fellow minded people at a market or event.”

Her long-term goal is to expand the range of Australian native varieties on offer — and judging by the customer response, that future is already well underway.
