In 2016, Erin kick-started her entrepreneurial journey with the launch of Perth Makers Market. This initiative emerged from her own experience running a hobby business, Handmadeley, where she sold handmade products at markets and online via Etsy. The experience offered Erin a rich understanding of the market industry in Perth, particularly the crucial aspects of brand identity, online presence, and social media growth.
The Perth Makers Market debut in 2016 saw 75 stallholders and a crowd of 1500 visitors. The market quickly gained recognition and by the end of the year, the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (now Development WA) approached Erin to host a two-day Christmas Market at Elizabeth Quay, welcoming approximately 200 stallholders each day. The Perth Makers Market has since expanded to host six markets annually in Applecross and additional events at other prestigious venues such as the Perth Cultural Centre.
However, as Erin was regularly sought out by organisations for event assistance outside the purview of the Perth Makers Market brand, Erin Madeley Consulting emerged in 2019. Through our consulting we have worked on long-standing events such as the Applrecross Rotary Jacaranda Festival to make the event process run seamlessly as well as run space activations for privately run businesses as well. In 2021 the business family grew again through the acquisition of Perth Upmarket, including the Upmarket Wedding Fair and Upmarket Art Fair events.
Rebranded in 2023 as MarketLife, the company broadened its mission to assist non-profits, local governments, and businesses with event management, while continuing to support small creative businesses through education and mentorship.
Today, Erin leads MarketLife with a wealth of over seven years of experience, supporting the growth of over 300 businesses annually. Her keen insight into the key success factors and potential pitfalls of creative businesses make MarketLife an invaluable ally for businesses striving to grow.
